The first, furious shock of this year monsoonal floods has ripped its way through four provinces, causing devastation on an almost incomprehensible scale. Even as the country grapple with the post flood specter of disease outbreaks, food and water shortage and eventually land rehabilitation, it seems that the wrath of this element has not yet been appeased.

Close to one million houses have been damaged in the four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan because of the heavy floods, according to preliminary estimates of the National Disaster Management Authority. As on Aug 19, the figure of damaged houses stood at 980,484 with the Punjab sharing more than half of it. However, of the total deaths of 1,497, which have been officially confirmed, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) was the worst hit as 1,068 persons died due to flooding there. Official data showed that as per initial reports, 500,000 houses were damaged in the Punjab, 271,699 in Sindh, 179,874 in KPK, 19,619 in Balochistan, 6,472 in the AJK and 2,820 in GB.Of the total deaths caused by the deluge, 24 persons were killed in Balochistan, 1,068 in KP, 103 in the Punjab, 50 in Sindh, 69 in AJK and 183 in GB. However, officials emphasize that the statistics about the damages and losses were just preliminary and were being updated as new information flows in.

More than $800 million has been donated or pledged to help Pakistan’s flood victims, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Sunday. Following is a list of major commitments and contributions for flood victims .

 Beside government, non government and international donors, a huge contribution has been made by the telecom companies to help the flood victims. Three leading telecom operators PTCL, Ufone, Mobilink and Telenor have contributed Rs 238.5 million for the flood victims. Similarly Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has also donated Rs. 200 million to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.
