Pakistan is currently undergoing an eco-revolution as revealed by new data released by online real estate marketplace Lamudi Pakistan. Nearly half (49.5 percent)of the current residential property listings on Lamudi.pk’s website include eco-friendly features and elements of sustainable design.
This trend towards eco-friendly homes has accelerated since last year in light of increasing energy costs, higher air-conditioning bills, and prolonged heat spells. Architects and construction companies are also increasingly employing eco-friendly practices to counter these problems.
Lamudi registered the highest number of environmentally-friendly homes in Karachi, followed by Lahore and lastly Islamabad. One example of an ongoing remarkable sustainable development is that of DHA City Karachi, which is envisioned as a self-contained sustainable city.
Saad Arshed, Country Director of Lamudi Pakistan, said: “Green building is the future of construction and it is heartening to see an increase in sustainable buildings listed to buy or rent on our website. House-hunters these days are increasingly discerning and they are starting to demand a range of eco-friendly features for their homes.
With Earth Day which passed on April 22,, we should all pledge to pay back this planet for the resources we have been using tirelessly for thousands of years. Now is the time to start doing what we can to preserve resources for future generations. We believe this process starts in the home.”
When buying a new house or renovating your existing one, consider using energy-efficient materials which can help homeowners lower their utility builds and have a healthier living environment, Arshed said.
