Samsung Electronics, a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, semiconductors and telecommunications, dominated the 2010 third quarter 3D TV market in the United States, establishing an equation of ‘3D TV = Samsung’.
Samsung Electronics took an 81.9% (in terms of units sold) of the U.S. 3D TV market during the July-September period, according to NPD, a market research firm. Meaning four out of five 3D TVs sold in the U.S. during the quarter were ‘Samsung 3D TV.’
In particular, the South Korean electronics giant won a complete victory in North America which represents 50.8% of the global 3D flat-panel TV market, furthering its position as a predominant player in the market.
Samsung’s superiority in the 3D TV market has been driven by efforts initiated with its industry-leading launch of Full HD 3D LED TV series last March, backed by the largest 3D TV line-up of trio products (3D LED TV, 3D LCD TV and 3D PDP TV) and a 3D total solution (3D TV, 3D AV, 3D content and 3D glasses), which contributed to helping the company take an advantageous position in the market from the beginning.
Samsung Electronics won six titles achieving leadership in all digital TV, LCD TV, Flat-Panel TV, LED TV, 3D TV and IPTV segments in the U.S. during the third quarter, getting closer to the ‘top rank for the fifth consecutive year.’
The global electronics giant accounted for 25.1% of the U.S. market in all digital TV segments in terms of units sold in the third quarter, and represented 23.2% in LCD TVs (10 inches and above), 25.2% in flat-panel TVs, maintaining its leadership in these categories.
It also took 47.8% in LED TVs, 81.9% in 3D TVs and 53.9% in IPTVs, cementing its absolute dominion of the U.S. television market.
Samsung Electronics appealed to American consumers with an overwhelming market share in premium flat panel TVs, posting 37.7% in the segment of 40-inch and above TVs, 31.6% in Full HD TVs, 40.5% in 120Hz/240Hz LCD TVs and 42.2% in 50-inch and above PDP TVs.
